Charles “Chuck” Lenhart Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Lenhart, of Butler, devoted husband, father, missionary and servant of Jesus Christ, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025.
Born May 6, 1966, in Jeannette, Pa., he was a son of the late George Alan Lenhart and Cheryl Margaret Patterson Lenhart.
In addition to his mother, Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Ong Lenhart, whom he married Aug. 19, 1990; two sons, Jared Lenhart and his wife, Julia, of Butler, and Christopher Lenhart, of Butler; two grandchildren, Elijah and Izabella Lenhart; two brothers, Alan Lenhart and his wife, Jody, of Butler, and Ron Lenhart and his wife, Carol, of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
Chuck grew up in a close-knit family of German, Dutch and Irish heritage. In 1984, at the age of 18, he experienced a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and became a born-again believer - a moment that would define the course of his entire life.
After graduating from Bible school, Chuck answered God's call to the nations. In 1988, at the close of the hair band era, he left behind the comforts of home to bring the gospel to ethnic minorities who had never heard the name of Jesus. Relying on the book of Acts as his guide for church planting, he learned the power of teamwork, perseverance and the Holy Spirit's leading. Through God's grace, the faithful prayers and giving of His people, and years of tireless labor on the ground, Chuck witnessed the planting of hundreds of churches and the salvation of souls across Asia.
In 1993, Chuck and his beloved wife, Wendy, a native of Penang, Malaysia, took a bold step of faith and moved to Kunming, in Yunnan Province, China. Together, they founded Frontier Harvest Ministries, a pioneer church-planting organization devoted to reaching unreached people groups throughout Asia. What began humbly in southwest China grew into a vast network of believers spanning across China, Vietnam, Burma (Myanmar) and beyond.
Under Chuck and Wendy's leadership, Frontier Harvest Ministries has helped plant more than 500 churches among 71 distinct people groups, raising up a body of more than 50,000 baptized believers. The ministry's network now stretches from Xinjiang to Inner Mongolia, from the Himalayan Mountains of Tibet into Sichuan and from the highlands of Yunnan to the plains of central Burma - a living testimony to God's faithfulness and the power of the Great Commission.
Chuck's passion was simple yet profound: to take the gospel where it had not yet been proclaimed and to establish God's kingdom among the nations. He devoted his life to mentoring teams, strengthening local leaders and fanning the flames of revival across Asia.
Above all, Chuck was a faithful husband to Wendy and a loving father to his children, who now carry forward his vision and calling through the ongoing work of Frontier Harvest Ministries. His life was marked by courage, humility and an unshakable belief that the harvest is plentiful and the laborers must go forth.
Chuck's legacy lives on in every church planted, every soul reached and every disciple raised to continue the mission he began. Today, his wife, Wendy, his younger son, Christopher, and his older son, Jared, along with Jared's family, are faithfully leading Frontier Harvest Ministries - building upon Chuck's legacy and expanding it to even greater heights for the glory of God as they press onward to fulfill the Great Commission among the unreached peoples of Asia.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15
