Charles F. "Charlie" Lubbert, age 87, Quincy, bricklayer-servant of the Most High God, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 6:55 am in St. Vincent's Home.
Anyone who knew Charlie, would know that if you asked him how he was, you could expect the answer, "I'm Blessed". He was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and was very supportive of ministry and mission trips around the world. Charlie was also willing to visit with and help anyone who was in need.
Charlie was born May 9, 1934 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Walter C. and Marion E. Summers Lubbert. He married Judith Ann Lewis on February 8, 1958. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2001. He married Muriel Rebecca Harvey on May 19, 2004. She survives.
Charlie was a member of the United States Naval Reserve and was called into active service in 1953. While serving aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean, Charlie learned his bricklaying trade from a correspondence school. Upon his return to Quincy, he was employed for Roger Richmiller before starting his own masonry business. Charlie was active as a mason in Adams County for nearly 50 years. After his retirement, Charlie purchased the family farm and enjoyed remaining active and spending time working on his land, harvesting trees and splitting wood to sell.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Rebecca, include his son, Michael Lubbert of Bloomington, IL; three step-children, Curtis (Mary Jo) Harvey and Bradley Harvey, both of Champaign, IL, and Candice Hanlin of Quincy; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert (Betty) Lubbert, Walter (Vickie) Lubbert, II, a sister, Ruth Ann Lubbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith, his parents, an infant daughter, Kathy Lubbert, two brothers, John and David Lubbert, and a sister Marie Porth.
Private graveside services will be held at the Lubbert Farm.
