Charles Edward McClanahan, Sr. was born July 18, 1941 to parents Charlie and Callie McClanahan in Hogansville, Texas, Wood County. Charles passed this life September 17, 2023 peacefully at his home in Steamboat Shores. In 2008 Charles deeded House of Prayer, Inc 2 acres to build a church located on 1382 CR 515. Along with his life-long friend, James Colson, the church was completed in September 2009. He was often called a “modern day Noah.” He had no pastor or congregation, but set out to complete the calling he felt God wanted of him. On September 19, 2009 House of Prayer, Inc. was dedicated and given to the congregation of Rains County. In 2011 Charles deeded to House of Prayer, Inc. the balance of his property to build McClanahan Family Life Center.
Charles is survived by his wife Wanda of Emory; son Eddie McClanahan (Robin) of Royce City; daughter Deborah Rodden (Tracy) of Sunnyvale; step-daughters Leslie McCaughan (Lynn) of Corpus Christi, Amber Boswell of Corpus Christi, Tonda Helms (Shane) of Tyler, Teri Hudson (Heath) of Batesville, Mississippi; Three Grandchildren, David McClanahan, Kimberly Rodden, and Jeffery McClanahan; and ten step– grandchildren, James Goodwin, Lyle Goodwin, Cy Tschirgi, Ashley Newman, Dallas Boswell, Taylor Harris, Tavis Harris, Tallen Harris, Hays Hudson, and Hunter Hudson. brother James McClanahan (Connie) of Van; sisters Linda Puckett (Gary) of Van and Dorothy Rutzen (Art) of Van.
Charles is proceeded in death by his parents, and brothers, Dan McClanahan, Henry McClanahan, John McClanahan; sisters, Ruth Garrett, Louise Sapey, and Brenda Fugate
