Mr. Charles Franklin McKenzie, 78, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Health on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Mr. McKenzie was born in Forsyth County on October 31, 1946, to the late Mr. Benjamin Franklin McKenzie and Suzanne Davis McKenzie Upson. He worked as an engineer for AT&T for many years until retirement. Charles made the ultimate sacrifice and enlisted in the United States Army and served our country during the Vietnam War. He met his wife, Margie, and they instantly fell in love, they were married for 56 years. Together, they built a life they loved and were blessed with two daughters, who Charles adored, Ana and Molly. Charles enjoyed working as a “train buff” and was a lover of bees, he was a beekeeper until he was unable, he also loved his tractor. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Margie McKenzie, of the home; two daughters, Ana McKenzie and Molly McKenzie, of the home; a sister, Linda McKenzie (Frank Marx); a brother, Ben McKenzie (Wendy Catcart); two nephews, Ian and Simon McKenzie; and a sister-in-law, Joanie Landen (Mike). A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to PBS, 1225 South Clark Street, Arlington, VA 22202; MPR, 480 Cedar Street, Saint Paul, MN 55101; or a charity of the donor’s choice. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. McKenzie.
