Charles Mihalcoe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - West Point on Jul. 31, 2024.
Charles "Pop" Mihalcoe, 88, of Croaker, VA, accepted his invitation to the party in Heaven on July 26, 2024. He was proceeded in death by his parents John and Emilie Mihalcoe, sister Helen Carlyle, brothers Andrew Mihalcoe and John Mihalcoe Jr, stepchildren Betty Catherine "Sissy" and Russell Pruitt. Pop is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Mihalcoe, who share many years of adventures, laughter, and both of them loved singing together. He also is survived by brother Miron Mihalcoe (Dyanne), sister Shirley Johnson (Boyd), children Kimberly Griffith, Kelly Mihalcoe, Krista Spivey (Mike), Chuck Mihalcoe (Wendy), stepson Harold Pruitt, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pop was born on March 4, 1936, and raised in New Kent County, VA. He graduated from New Kent High School, excelling in football, baseball and track. After graduation, Pop married Inez Crump (the mother of his four children). He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of Airman First Class in Northern Virginia. Pop served on the Air Force Honor Guard, and one of his favorite memories was Celebrating 50 Years of Flight, performing in 16 shows at Radio City Music Hall with the Rockettes. After leaving the military he spent 19 years building his successful pizza business. The legendary pizza brought him back home to Williamsburg. He helped found Miss Softball America which his three daughters participated in for years. Later in life Pop transitioned to the construction industry and worked until the age of 85. Pop was a regular at Garrett's Grocery. He enjoyed taking his wife and friends fishing for Croaker in the York River.
A lover of Christ, Pop would share the word of God whenever given the chance. Pop had a heart for missions and went on many mission trips, once raising money to buy an entire orphanage shoes and taking extra clothes for the kids in need. Pop was loved by the community for his kindness, hilarious sense of humor, work ethic, humility, and generosity. He will be dearly missed, but we are sure Pop is applying to be a greeter at Heaven's gates.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 5th at LifePointe Christian Church, 8841 Richmond Road Toano, VA. A military graveside service will follow at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston, VA.
