Charles "Pop" Miller
Charles Miller, 93 of Bellefontaine passed away Thursday, November 20, 2025 in Bellefontaine surrounded by the love of his family-fondly known by many as Charlie, Jim, Jimmy, or PeeWee, but best known as Pop Miller.
Charles was born September 14, 1932 in DeGraff to the late Marshall L. and Frieda (Kauffman) Miller. On November 12, 1960, Charles married the love of his life, Peggy L. Kreakbaum, and together they built a family grounded in love, loyalty, and hard work. He is survived by his children: Terri (Mark) Penhorwood; son-in-law, Mark (Joan) Henry; grandchildren: Josh Penhorwood; Jordan (Lindsey) Penhorwood; Joel (Katie) Penhorwood; Jerrod (Emily) Henry; Lindsey (Parker) Robison; great-grandchildren: Peyton, Brooke; Hayes, Hadley; Cael, Lexi; Maverick, River. He is also survived by his beloved donkey, Molli Mari and goat, Cheez-It.
A proud member of the graduating class of Zanesfield High School Class of 1951, Charles was active in the Zanesfield FFA, fostering a lifelong dedication to farming. He was also in the school band and played the cymbals. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and honorably served in Germany before returning home to care for his parents.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kim Henry; and the following siblings: Jerome Miller, John (Ruth) Miller, Joy (Dick) Finkenbine, Myrna (Marvin) Stanley, Fonta Belle (Joe) Hurley, Genevieve (Alton) Hughes, Marshall Miller Jr., Sollie Miller.
Charles is also remembered by his many in-laws, including numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law-all deceased: Connie (Homer) Adams, John (Rita) Kreakbaum, Jim (Annie) Riley, Dick (Maxine) Riley, as well as his wife's parents Lewis (Jane) Kreakbaum and Kay (Lavern) Zell.
He is loved by many nieces & nephews. He loved them all & welcomed them to his farm.
Throughout his life, Charles worked at the Farm Bureau, Rockwell, Boeing, and Honda Anna Engine Plant all while maintaining his greatest calling: being a lifelong farmer. He cared deeply for his animals-especially his sheep, goats, and donkeys-and loved his large garden of which he enjoyed sharing with anyone who stopped by in the summer, baling hay, cutting wood, tending to his land, riding his 4-Wheeler and visiting with friends and neighbors.
Pop never needed fancy or expensive things. His joy was found at home, on his farm, surrounded by the family he fiercely loved and protected. He was honest, hardworking, loyal, feisty, and ornery in the best ways. His work ethic was unmatched, and he believed strongly in the value of a hard day's work-both for himself and for others.
He was a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau and Goshen Friends Church. He had a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews and treasured having family visit-especially if it meant sharing food, conversation, and plenty of ice cream, Oreos, and candy.
Above all Pop loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren show at the fairs, attending tractor shows and going to all of their events, and enjoyed corn-husking festivals. He was a corn husker champion. He was a determined and caring man who would do anything for his friends and family.
Pop Miller will be remembered for the simple, powerful life he lived: rooted in his steadfast faith, family, hard work, and the land he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to get to know him.
A Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor Wayne Downing and Pastor Bruce Bell Monday, November 24, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Goshen Friends Church, 5527 Co Rd 153, Zanesfield, OH 43360.
