Charles William Mongan

Charles (Chuck) William Mongan, 81, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Friday, September 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Friday, March 5, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late John Clarence Mongan and the late Edith May (Bowers) Mongan.
Chuck attended both South and North Hagerstown High School before enlisting in the military. He was a Sergeant with the Marine Corp during Vietnam. While enlisted, Chuck obtained his electrical training. Chuck worked for several local electrical companies before retiring as a Power Controller from the Department of Defense: Site R in 2007. He was a former member of State Line United Methodist Church and currently attended St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Williamsport. He was also a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Club and Funkstown American Legion Dixon-Troxell Post 211. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, being with friends, and attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events. Chuck was a proud father and grandfather who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Mongan; daughter, Robin Harper and husband Jim; sons, Douglas Mongan and and wife Kristie, and John Mongan and wife Betsy; grandchildren, Jarrett and Jillian Harper, Rachel Irby and husband William, Benjamin, Joy, Reese, Sean, Ty, Tasha, Abby, Audrey, Zach, Addison, Mia, and Joseph Mongan; great-granddaughter, Violet Irby and a great-grandson on the way.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Lou Moats.
Services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:30 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Mark A. Sandell officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, October 4, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Washington County staff for the professional care and comfort they provided for Chuck.
