Charles Moodhe Obituary

Published by Colonial Funeral Home & Crematory on Sep. 29, 2021.
Charles E. "Chuck" Moodhe, age 83, of McHenry, passed away suddenly on September 29, 2021 at his home in McHenry, IL. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 12, 1937 to Everett and Charlotte Moodhe. At a very young age, Chuck moved with his family to Woodhaven, Queens, New York City where he spent all his youth. He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Queens. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly served from 1954 through 1958 and received an honorable discharge. He then attended New York University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. In 1959, Chuck met Lottisua LaMarche, married in 1960 and started a family. In 1965, he and his young family moved to the Chicagoland area, ultimately establishing roots in Buffalo Grove in 1969. He was active in local community and St. Mary's Parish affairs, serving on his homeowners' association Board and running for Buffalo Grove trustee in the early 1970s. Chuck also found time to lead Boy Scout Troop 140 (St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove) during which the troop experienced an increase in membership and organized numerous camping and adventure trips for young men and mentored many to Eagle Scout. An avid outdoorsman since youth, Chuck and his family spent many happy times at their cottage in Door County, Wisconsin. He enjoyed sailing, boating, fishing (particularly fly fishing around the world), hunting and golfing. He established many lifelong friendships and memories through his love for the outdoors. Chuck began his business career in the magazine publishing industry in New York City in the late 1950's. After moving to the Midwest, he started his own company (CEMCOM) and owned National Outdoor Outfitters News (NOON), a national magazine servicing the outdoor outfitting industry. Eventually, he sold CEMCOM to and became an executive with Cahners Publishing, an international publishing corporation. He successfully advanced within the company eventually becoming Senior Vice President in charge of the large Chicago division before retiring in 2001. Following his retirement, Chuck moved to McHenry, Illinois. During the past 20+ years, he shared his life with his loving partner Cheryl Schultz and they developed a large circle of friends, particularly enjoying golf and other activities together. He is survived by his loving partner of 20 years Cheryl Schultz, his children with Lottisua: Adam (Mary) Moodhe, Lydine (Timothy) Burke-Oakley, Matthew ( Mary Gibbs) Moodhe, Kirsten (Late Nick) Cashion and Jennifer (Thomas) Donat; his step-children: Robert (Ashley) Beck and Ryan (Sarah) Schultz; his grandchildren: Shannon, Kelly, Joseph, Sarah, Samantha, Morgan, Anna, Sean, Thomas, Jacob and Trevor; 11 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Everett and Charlotte Moodhe; two brothers, one sister and great granddaughter Madelyn. Memorial visitation will take place on October 16, 2021 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, IL. Memorial service will begin at 2pm in the funeral home chapel followed by military honors. Interment will be private.
