My thoughts begin with the Gospel of Luke 10:25-37.
There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and he said, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus responded by asking the scholar what was written in the law? How do you read it? The scholar answered, "You shall love the Lord, God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself. Jesus replied, "You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live. " As I sat at mass this past Sunday, I thought of Charlie and of the fact that despite being an ex-daughter-in law, he treated me like a member of the family; like a daughter. He did not delineate. Charlie welcomed me into his home, his pool and to the many fun celebrations. He later than received Emily and Evelyn's half brother, Andrew, as another Morgera, with the same caring and loving heart that he had for them. Andy enjoyed his pool times and the conversation with Charlie regarding life in Canada and hockey or course.

Charlie then opened the door to my husband of 12 years and once again embraced acceptance with a loving heart. Charlie truly followed the teachings of Jesus by loving thy neighbor near and far. He is a model for all in how to look past biological ties and follow the way, the truth and the light.
May Charlie, my father in-law rest in peace with his family members and friends who have been waiting for him. Love you Charlie.
