Charles Edwin “Mata” Newcomb, a loving father, son, fiancé and dedicated working man of Scottsburg passed away on September 27, 2025 at the age of 44. He was born in Mecklenburg County on April 29, 1981 to Daniel Ralph Newcomb who survives and the late Linda Gayle Owen Newcomb.
Charles was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest; he was an avid golfer and softball enthusiast. His love for golf and softball was matched only by his love for his family, who he cherished above all else. He was a lineman with Carolina Power Company and was a loyal and kindhearted friend that endeared him to all who knew him.
In addition to his father he is survived by his fiancée, Desirae Wagstaff; his children, Lindy Newcomb of Saxe, Lauren Newcomb of Saxe, Lane Newcomb of Saxe and Jackson Newcomb of Scottsburg; one sister, Tonya S. Dunn (fiancé Wayne Jett) of Chase City.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sean McGuire officiating. Burial to follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at 1022 Temple Hill Rd, Halifax.
