Charles Norman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Penland Family Funeral Home Inc on Mar. 3, 2026.
Charles "Chuck" Burnice Norman, 84, of Swannanoa, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. Born January 6, 1942, in Asheville, NC, Chuck was a devoted husband, loving father and doting "Pa."
A graduate of Charles D. Owen High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960–1964. While stationed at Homestead Air Force Base, he met his true love, Linda Holley. Their life together – which took them from Tokyo, Japan to Western North Carolina – spanned 61 years.

Chuck was "Dad" to countless others beyond his three daughters. Kind, selfless and never meeting a stranger, he had a gift for taking the long way around a good story. A man of strong faith, he was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda, and his parents, Clota and Henry Norman. He is survived by his daughters Sherri McRoberts (Chris), Terri Norman (Michael Clark) and Lauri Nichols (Barrett); and grandchildren Taylor, Madison, Dylan and Maxwell.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Valley Hope Church, 115 Rockdale Avenue, Swannanoa, with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. A graveside ceremony will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery chapel in Black Mountain for those who wish to attend. The family will receive friends at the Norman home following the services.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Charles George VA Medical Center for their dedicated care and service to Chuck over the years.

Memorial donations may be made to the Asheville Humane Society or a veterans' charity of one's choice.
