Charles Normand Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2012.
Charles Steven Normand "Steve", age 55, of Oak Ridge, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Steve was born in Stuttgart, Germany, while his father was serving his country in the US Army, and he moved to Oak Ridge soon after birth, where he grew up and spent a large part of his life. Steve was an Elm Grove boy and he was a stellar athlete. He loved football and was a two way starter at linebacker and tackle for the Wildcats on the 72' and 73' teams who played in Oak Ridge's first playoff game against Knox Central in Neyland Stadium. Steve also loved the water. He was a competitive swimmer in his youth and he served as a lifeguard at Carbide Park and then at Disney World. He was an avid boater, skier, especially "barefoot" skiing, and he loved to go scuba diving. In recent years, he always found happiness cruising on Watts Bar and watching the Eagles and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Normand Joyce, his father, Charles E. Normand, his stepfather Eugene L. Joyce, his brother, Daniel Allen Normand, his step-sister Lisa Joyce and his cousin Missy Normand. Steve is survived by the joy and light of his life Stephanie Crudup Normand and her mother Renay Crudup. He is also survived by his brother Jim Normand, Jim's wife Mary, three nephews, James, Elliott and Jake, step-sister Lori Joyce Lynn, her children Bryan and Dana, Lisa's son Michael, his Uncle Tom , Aunt Helen, Aunt Caroline, Uncle Joe, Aunt Mary, Uncle Drake, cousins, Ginger, David, Robert, Nancy, Lou, Kelly, Libby, Karen, Mike, Anna, Mary's dad "Poppy", and many other special friends, all of whom he loved dearly. Steve's grandparents were T.A. and Gertrude McKenzie and C.E. "Doc" and Hazel Normand, who moved to Oak Ridge with Steve's parents in 1943. Steve graduated ORHS in 1974 and then attended the University of Tennessee. He completed training through the TAT program in physical testing and became a Certified Welding inspector. He traveled the world working many job sites as a CWI. He was proud to earn his Bachelor of Science – Applied Organizational Science, from Tusculum College in 1992. Steve loved family, especially his daughter Stephanie, around whom he centered his life. Steve and Stephanie loved to travel including a recent trip of a lifetime to Hawaii. Steve also loved his nephews and rarely missed one of their football games. Steve will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday January, 19th, in the chapel at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the funeral service starting at 7:00pm. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20th at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy's and Girl's Club of Oak Ridge PO Box 4021, Oak Ridge, TN 37831, Graduation Celebration PO Box 6546, Oak Ridge, TN 37831, or the Church or charity of your choice.

I knew him for a short time in high school, I had a mad crush (unreciprocated sadly) on him.
He was a gentleman, mature beyond his years and a very kind sweet soul. And boy a great horseback rider!
So sorry for his loss.

Jimmy and Mary,

I was so saddened to read of Steve's passing. I recently ran into him at Big Ed's, and he was his usual similing Steve. I have fond memories of my late little brother, David Wallace, and Steve being friends for so many years. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your great loss. May God bless you and your family in this sad time.
