Charles Glenn Phillips, age 81, was born on May 4, 1944, In
Houston, Texas. He went home to be with our Lord and Savior December 27, 2025, trusting fully in the promise of everlasting life through Jesus Christ.
Charles was one of seven children born to Guy and Virgie Phillips. He attended Spring Branch High School, where he proudly played football for the Spring Branch Bears. Known for his strength and skill, he earned the nickname "Golden Toe" Phillips as a kicker where he played in the state high school semifinals. Charles continued his football career at Sam Houston State University, where he was a member of the Bearkats football team during their 1964 Co-National Championship season.
On September 18, 1965, Charles married the love of his life, Gwendolyn Sue Miller at St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Houston. Their marriage was a blessing grounded in love and commitment until her passing on July 21, 2000.
Charles worked for B&G Manufacturing in Houston for about 15 years. He and Gwen decided to move the family out of the "big city". They bought land in Milano and enjoyed the country life. He worked for Halliburton until retiring after 20 years. He attended Milano Methodist Church and was a member of the Milano Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gwendolyn; son Cary "Gene" Phillips; parents, Guy and Virgie Phillips; brothers, Jerry, Bill, Jimmy and sister Juanita Pittman, In-laws Wink and Vera Miller; brother-in-Laws, Mike Kelly and James Pittman; and sister-in-Laws Patricia Phillips and Joy Phillips.
Surviving are sons, Charles "Chuck" Phillips and wife Beverly of Round Rock, Christopher Phillips of Hutto; daughter Kimberly Westbrook and husband Robert of Milano, and daughter-in-law Paula Phillips of Rockdale. Also surviving is his brother Kenneth Phillips of Austin and sister, Mary Phillips of San Antonio; brother-in-law's Frank and Melinda Miller of Houston, George and Becky Miller of Houston, Sister-in-law Patsy Kelly of Houston; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members.
He was a proud grandfather to Rachel Phillips of Illinois; Ryan and wife Shinea Phillips of Baytown; Amanda and husband Brandon Robbins of Little River; Victoria Bermudez and George Bermudez of Round Rock. Kara Phillips and husband Christopher Darby of Ohio; Krista and husband Zach Martinez of Round Rock; Cade Phillips of Austin. Kayla and husband Norbert Gutierrez of Needville; Grant and wife Kaytlin Westbrook of Kansas. Great-grandfather to Conrad, Harvey, Owen, Presley and Hudson. Bodie, Aleah and Alexa, Roman, Jordan, and Morgan.
A memorial service will be held, 11 am, Saturday, February 21st at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home located 1041 US 79
Rockdale, TX 76567. Visitation will take place from 10:00AM-11:00AM followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00AM. Bro. Roy Dillard officiating. After, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Milano Civic Center. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Milano fire department or Milano Methodist church.
