Charles L. Polansky Jr, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday February 22, 2025, in Mercy Medical Center from a brief illness. Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 1, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held on Friday February 28, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Charles was born on January 12, 1937, the son of Chuck and Evelyn Polansky. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in June of 1955. He served in the Army from August 1955 to August 1958 where he obtained the rank of Specialist 4th Class.
In 1969 he married Janelle Benda of Calmar, Iowa. From that marriage, son Thomas and Scott were born, He also had son's Robert and James from a previous marriage. He worked at Collins Radio for 5 years before joining the Cedar Rapids Police Department in 1962 where he retired in 1992 after serving 30 years.
In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years his wife Jan and he enjoyed collecting antiques and going on cruises to the Caribbean as well as Las Vegas. He also enjoyed restoring antique telephones.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his wife, Jan and son Scott Lee and brother Richard.
He survives by his devoted son Thomas and sons, Robert (Linda) and James (Liz), grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah and Rebecca and sister, Sandra and husband, Greg Ghere.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center for all the care they gave to Charles.
