Charles Edward "Eddie" Rewis

Charles Edward “Eddie” Rewis, age 76, born in 1949, passed away on January 12, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.

Eddie was a native of Tattnall County and a lifelong resident of Reidsville, Georgia. He graduated from Reidsville High School in 1967 and proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1969 until 1991, including active duty during Operation Desert Shield and ultimately, Desert Storm, from 1990–1991. During his military career, Eddie served as a track vehicle mechanic, light vehicle mechanic, and construction equipment repairer, retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7).

Following his military service, Eddie attended the Police Academy in 1992 and began his law enforcement career with the Lyons Police Department, where he later became an investigator. He deeply loved his work in law enforcement and the opportunity to serve his community. Among his many accomplishments, Eddie was instrumental in a multi-agency investigation of a violent criminal organization operating in the Vidalia–Lyons area, which resulted in ten federal arrests and multiple state arrests, along with additional investigations involving drugs, firearms, and counterfeit currency. Eddie thrived when working with others and was happiest while investigating, known as a dedicated and respected professional.

In 1996, Eddie left the Lyons Police Department to focus more on his family. He worked as a correctional officer at Georgia State Prison from 1996 to 1997 before joining the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles as a parole investigator in 1997. He remained in that role until his retirement in 2011.

Eddie was also deeply committed to public service. He served as a Reidsville City Council member from 2004 to 2011 and was elected Mayor of Reidsville, serving from 2012 to 2015. In addition, he served as Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director and helped establish the first emergency medical services in Tattnall County, personally driving the ambulance and providing lifesaving care prior to 911.

Eddie met his wife, Penny, in 1985, and they were married in 1986. Together they raised their children and built a life rooted in service, family, and community.

Beyond his many professional and civic accomplishments, Eddie found great joy in bass fishing with his friends and his children. He was also a talented singer who performed with local bands, in churches, with Tattnall Productions, and at many venues where his love of music and talent were shared with the community.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Penny A. Rewis of Reidsville; his brother, Teddy and Kay Rewis of Jackson, Georgia; his three children and their spouses, Josh and Doreen Rewis of Germany, Russell and Fiona Rewis of North Carolina, and Misti-Dawn Rewis and fiance Davis Oehrli of North Carolina; and his two beloved grandchildren, William Theus and Martha Mae Rewis.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charles and Carolyn Rewis.

Eddie will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to service, his deep love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on his community.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Chuck Jonas officiating.

Following services, beginning at 12:00 p.m., a period of fellowship and celebration will continue in the Community Room at Low Country Cremation and Burial, with a meal provided by members of both Reidsville Baptist Church and Connection Church (formerly Reidsville United Methodist Church).

A private interment service will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery – Glennville.
