Charles "Rick" Byars, a devoted musician and cherished member of the Spartanburg and Arcadia community, passed away on March 15, 2026, in his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on March 1, 1952, Rick’s life was marked by a deep passion for music and a spirit that resonated with courage, optimism, and intelligence.

Rick's thirty-year musical career where he played in his band distinguished him as a talented and dedicated artist. His love for rock and roll music was not only a hobby, but a defining element of his life that brought joy to many audiences over the decades. In addition, Rick was a retired truck driver from the city of Greer. Those who knew Rick admired not only his musical abilities but also his unwavering positive outlook and insightful nature.

Throughout his life, Rick was surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his stepson, Jaime Black; his step-grandson, Anthony Black (and his wife Nikki); his step-granddaughter, Candace Johnson; and his beloved girlfriend, Mary Furber. These family members and close friends were a vital part of Rick’s life and will carry forth his memory lovingly.

Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Black Byars, and his mother, Doris Holcombe. Their memories remain an important part of the legacy he leaves behind.
