Charles (Chuck/Bobby) Palmer Ritter, 74, of New Berlin, entered peacefully into rest at 12:27 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. 

He was born December 20, 1949, in East Buffalo Township, Union County, a son of the late Betty (Kratzer) Ritter and Clyde Ray Ritter Jr. of Beavertown. On May 22, 1981, he married the former Bonita Lee Reigle who still survives. The couple was married for 36 years. 

Chuck was a 1967 graduate of West Snyder High School. He served in the Air Force as a Sergeant in the Technical Unit, from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1973. Chuck was a Vietnam Veteran. 

Chuck was employed at the Beavertown Weaving Mill and later at QE Manufacturing from where he retired. Chuck also enjoyed working a secondary job as a security officer at the Susquehanna Valley Mall. 

He served as a member of the New Berlin Borough Council and also served as Mayor of New Berlin for 12 years. Chuck was a member of the New Berlin American Legion Post 957 and the Middleburg Masonic Lodge. Chuck was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, New Berlin where he also previously served on the church council.

He enjoyed having morning coffee with the guys at Harveys, woodworking projects, gardening and working outdoors, coaching little league, and Hallmark Christmas movies.  Above all, Chuck was dedicated to his family and proud and grateful for their love. 

Chuck is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Stacy L. and Christopher Sauers, one son and daughter-in-law, Scott D. and Rhonda (Botdorf) Ritter, 4 grandchildren, Nathan Sauers, Collin Sauers, Jenna (Dylan) Wagner, and Jeremiah Ritter, a great- granddaughter Vivian Wagner, a brother, Craig E. Ritter, a sister- in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Kurt Zimmerman, two nieces and three great nieces and one great nephew. 

A special thank you to the caregivers (our God sent angels) and the Residential Hospice Team, for their compassionate, loving care they provided to our Dad during his illness.

 A viewing will be held for family and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 25, at Messiah Lutheran Church in New Berlin, followed by the funeral at 11 where the funeral will be conducted with Lay Worship Leader Beverly Hoffman, officiating.

The burial will be in the New Berlin Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 308 Market St, New Berlin, PA 17855.
