I am a retired Philadelphia art teacher. I met Charles Santore at his showing of illustrations about 30 years ago at the University of the Arts. I was impressed with his use of color intensity and perspective in the Wizard of Oz illustrations to control the viewer. Overwhelmed that he was actually pleased about my understanding what he was trying to do. Couldn't believe how kind he was to take a few minutes to talk about his art with me. Afterwards, I found the the Little Mermaid "she really does float" I thought, I have his Aesop's Fables and discovery something new every time I open the book. What a great loss to the art world.

The Santore family are all wonderful people starting with Charles I and his wife Nellie (who are now both deceased) and their wonderful sons.
I was sorry to hear of Charles' passing. I send my sincere condolences to his family.
Although Charles is gone, his art will live on for his children and others to enjoy.
