Dr. Charles G. Schlotthauer, age 92, of Rochester, MN passed away November 3, 2025, at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester, MN.
Charles was born July 26, 1933 in Rochester, MN, the son of Dr. Carl and Emily (Jensen) Schlotthauer. Dr. Carl was the Mayo Clinic veterinarian and managed the farms and research animals, so Charles grew up knowing many of the Mayo founding families. Charles attended Rochester High School where he was a stand-out on the swim team, medaling at the state tournament two years in a row. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Minnesota and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. In college, he connected with his high school friend, Jeanette Judd and they married on July 31, 1954. They were blessed with 4 children, Judd, Kurt, Amy, and Matthew and 71 years of marriage.
Charles started his veterinary practice in Pine Island, caring for the animals on area farms and becoming part of the community. In 1976, he sold his Pine Island practice and joined the Cascade Animal Hospital in Rochester. In 1980, he opened the 3rd Avenue Pet Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 1998.
Charles was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Rochester Rotary Club. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin in Deerwood, MN. Most of all, he loved his family. He taught his children and grandchildren about everything he knew and attended every sports event, musical recital, and gathering of which they were a part.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Schlotthauer of Rochester; four children, Judd (Tammy) Schlotthauer of Oronoco, MN, Kurt Schlotthauer of Kasson, MN, Amy (Mike) Jasik of Rochester, MN and Matthew (Jennifer) Schlotthauer of Rochester, MN; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, John.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, November 14, 2025, at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Avenue SW, Rochester, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester, MN.
