Charles “Shannon” White

Charles “Shannon” White, 84, of Nephi, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025, in a car accident. Born September 3, 1941, in Monroe, Utah, to Eugina “Ginger” and Ivol “Whizzer” White, Shannon grew up in Monroe and graduated from South Sevier High School in 1959.

Following graduation, Shannon honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, working as a mechanic while stationed in Korea. He could fix just about anything — and if he couldn’t, he’d at least make you laugh while trying.

On September 8, 1967, Shannon married the love of his life Gayle Chamberlain. Later their union was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Through their union, Shannon gained two sons from Gayle’s previous marriage, and together they welcomed a son and daughter. Shannon often joked that raising kids was the best “full-time job with no retirement plan” he ever had.

Shannon was a proud member of the Lions Club from 1971, serving faithfully in every position from president to tail twister. He was town-famous for his pancakes, flipping them at the Stampede Lions Club breakfast with such flair that people swore he had a secret wrist technique. He was also a proud member of the American Legion, where he continued his lifelong commitment to service and camaraderie with fellow veterans.

In 1985, Shannon established and operated his own roofing business, White Roofing, which he ran with dedication until his retirement in 2024. He also co-owned and operated White Brothers from 1994 to 2020 with his brothers. Shannon liked to say that between roofing and pancakes, he spent most of his life “keeping things covered.”

A devoted member of the LDS Church, Shannon served in numerous callings, including in the bishopric and as a high councilman. His faith guided his life, though his sense of humor often guided his conversations.

Beyond his work and service, Shannon was happiest when helping anyone in need. He spent most of his time as full-time care giver for Gayle who suffers from dementia. He loved hunting, camping, side-by-side rides, and spending time outdoors with his family. His smile was contagious when he was bragging about the many accomplishments his children and grandchildren achieved.

Shannon is survived in death by his wife Gayle; children Michael (Kim) Wright, Carl (Paula) Wright, Rick (Kristine) White, and Heidi (Michael) Jennings; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Hap (Bonnie) White, sister Marcile Gilley, sister-in-law Diane White, bonus brother Keith (Beverly) Fullmer, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Steve, Vard, Fred, and Ladd.

Funeral Services

A viewing will be held Friday, January 2, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Nephi Stake Center, 351 N 100 W, Nephi, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church, 351 N 100 W, Nephi, Utah with a viewing one hour prior. Interment will follow at Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.
