He was a graduate of Verona High School and then served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1962. Mr. Smith was a machinist for Edgewater Steel for over 35 years. He retired to become a golfer and fisherman and spent many hours at the pond on his property, 'Snuffy's Place.' He enjoyed gardening plants and flowers and enjoyed all wildlife, feeding his deer daily. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia L. Azzara Smith; three children, Charles A. Smith Jr., Walter F. 'Sonny' Smith and Maria M. (Ben) Ratliff; grandchildren, Rachel Catherine Smith, Nicole Patricia Smith, Bennett Harold Ratliff III and Lillian Pearl Ratliff; great-grandchildren, Aaron Rivera, Adrian Martinez, and Giovanni, DeAngelo and Santino Green; and brothers, Ronald Howard Smith and Robert Michael Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Aaron Smith; and two brothers, Richard C. Smith and Jeffrey Peter Cooper. Viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6. Burial will be private. The family requests that those wishing to send flowers to instead send a perennial plant or other plant that can be transplanted at 'Snuffy's Place,' or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I'm so sorry to see this. My condolences to the family. Snuffy was a good friend of my husband and spent many years golfing together. He also golfed with my father. He always made me laugh. RIP Snuffy.
