Charles A. "Chuck" Smith, 63, of Freetown, a beloved husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loving family at 2:14pm Monday, November 24, 2025. Leaving a legacy of joy, skill, and a zest for life that touched everyone he knew. He married Tammy S. White August 1, 1998.
Mr. Smith was born April 24, 1962, the son of, Melvin H. Smith and Jeanne Wayt Vega. Chuck made a career in the maintenance department at the Holiday Inn. His impact spread beyond his professional life and into his community, where he was known for being a "jack of all trades," someone who could always be relied upon when a helping hand was needed.
Chuck's hobbies reflected his love for the outdoors and the thrill of competition. He could often be found fishing or camping. His passion for racing go-karts and lawn mowers was infectious, making every race meeting an event to look forward to. He also took great pride in car restoration, tackling each project with precision and dedication, and he used his carpentry skills to craft lasting memories.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife Tammy; his devoted sisters, Melanie DeBord of North Vernon and Jennifer Hendrickson of Austin; his cherished grandchildren, Avery Juarez and Piper Juarez; his nieces, DeAnna Collins, Ashley Hendrickson, Chelsey Smith, and April Hendrickson; his nephew, Joshua Smith; his stepchildren, Amber Juarez and Dustin Riggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jeffrey Smith, brother-in-law Dewight DeBord, and sister-in-law Penny Smith.
He will be remembered not just for the things he fixed or built with his hands, but for the hearts he touched and the laughter he sparked. His legacy will continue to live on in the skills he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave unconditionally. He will be deeply missed, but his stories, his warmth, and spirit will forever be a part of the lives he has touched.
In keeping with Mr. Smiths wishes, cremation will take place.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2025 at Hotel Indigo in Columbus.
