Charles officiated my wedding to Ray Cohoon in 1962 at Parkside UMC in Portsmouth, Virginia. I was 19 and am 81 now. I just decided to look him up since my church disaffiliated fromthe UMC and I am one of the leaders of a plant church. Just was wanting to tell him about this and saw that he had passed.

What a great loss for such a wonderful man. I worked with "Spivo" for may years and loved him very much as well as the entire family. He is now with son Larry and what a reunion they must have had. My thoughts and prayers are with the family for strenght and wellness during the days ahead.
I will see you soon. With sympathy and love

Peggy, Mike and all the Spivey family, Don and I are so very sorry for the loss of Chuck. He was truly a good man. He had a big heart, a generous nature, a keen sense of humor, a lively mind and an infectious smile. The world was a better place for having him in it.

It is surely harder to deal with this loss during Christmas time, but it is also a time when we are focused on the truth that God gave us his Son so that we could have eternal life in Heaven. Chuck reminded us of that for half a century. Perhaps his passing on Christmas Eve is his final reminder...to hold in our hearts.

Chuck was more than a good man and pastor..he was a friend. I know that he is at peace and joyously reunited with Larry. May God grant the entire Spivey family the grace, courage and peace you need to remember the joy that Chuck brought into your life! Love, Will

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.
