Charles Stone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home on Jan. 17, 2026.
Sheridan: Charles H. "Stoney" Stone, 92, formerly of South Dayton & Perrysburg, died Monday, January 5, 2026 at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was born in Gowanda on November 2, 1933, the son of the late Wilbur Charles and Katie (McNamara) Stone.

Stoney served in the Army with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War, where he experienced the great adventure of paratrooping – witnessing the earth from above. These stories inspired his family & those around him endlessly.

He was an active outdoorsman who understood the rhythm and beauty of the natural world. Stoney taught his grandchildren how to walk in the woods without disturbing the peace that surrounded them. He was kind and endlessly patient; a role model husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include the love of his life, wife of 65 years, Maureen (Krebs) Stone of Sheridan, whom he married on July 2, 1960 in Hagerstown, MD, two daughters; Kelly (Al) Verge of Forestville & Sherry (Thomas) Small of Port Charlotte, FL, and a son; Michael (Dianne) Stone of Fredonia. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Aaron (Cade) Stone, Connor Stone, Chelsea (Eric) Grzechowiak & Jessica Small and two great grandchildren; Gannon & Guliana Grzechowiak.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240. Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville. To post condolences or memories go to https://rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com.
