ATTN: Services for Charles Swanson have been rescheduled for Saturday, January 17th from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica.
Charles F. Swanson, 95, of Eutaw, AL, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS.
Charles Franklin Swanson was born in Newtown, IN on January 21, 1930, to Roy McCord and Flossie Emma Fink Swanson. Charles was known to many of his family and friends as “Bud”. He was a 1948 graduate of Montmorenci High School in Montmorenci, IN. He was faithful to attend most of his high school reunions and was the last living classmate. Growing up, he worked with his dad and brothers on the family farm, and he continued this passion for farming and farming-related things throughout his life. He entered the US Army in 1953 and remained in the service until 1955. On July 25, 1954, Charles married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Bannon. Soon after their marriage, he was stationed in post-war Germany where he served for over a year. When he returned home, he resumed farming, started a family, and also went to auctioneering school. In 1973, he and his family moved to Macon, MS. where he continued farming and operated a seed cleaning business called Prairie Seed Services. They moved to Alabama in 1986, and after retirement, settled in the city of Eutaw.
His faith in the Lord was especially important to him, and he demonstrated that in many ways throughout his life. He attended church faithfully until his declining health made it difficult.
One of his great joys, and his family’s, was hosting several Labor Day barbecues at their farm in Prairie Point, MS. Friends, family, and members of the community would come to enjoy this day, and many still share fond memories of those great times.
In their later years, Charles and Pat thoroughly enjoyed traveling every fall to various Midwestern states where he would compete in cornhusking competitions. Growing up, he spent a lot of time harvesting corn this way. He was very competitive in the sport and eventually got two of his children and two of his grandchildren involved in the competitions as well. Another thing he and his wife enjoyed doing was operating their own ice cream business which they named “SOOOO Good Homemade Ice Cream”. They sold their ice cream at auctions, festivals, and other special events for several years.
Charles’ hobbies included playing the guitar, golfing, and restoring/showing antique equipment. Charles loved his wife, children, grands and great-grands dearly and always enjoyed it thoroughly when they could all be together. Charles was known for his integrity, honesty, strength, and for being a hard worker. When times were hard, he would make sure his family was taken care of, even if that meant taking on small jobs outside of farming.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Patricia; son, Danny Swanson; infant daughter, Jeanette Susanne Swanson; three siblings, Mary Jane Baer, Carolyn Snider, and John Swanson.
Surviving family members are his daughter, Sarah “Sally” Robbins (Larry), Macon, MS; two sons, Bruce Swanson (Sherri), Kennedy, AL, and Steve Swanson (Rhonda), Cochrane, AL; eleven grandchildren, Lizzie Wright, Summer House (David), Trace Swanson (Chy), Kyle Swanson (Whitnee), Dustie Swanson, Jessica Daugherty (Randy), Suzanne Robbins, Allison Robbins, Caroline Robbins, Lilyana Robbins, and Leah Robbins; and six great-grandchildren; Jesse Wright, Ryder House, Brenlynn House, Jason Jones, Aurora Swanson, and Laramee Swanson; brother, Tom Swanson; and a special friend who was like another son, Xinhua Yin, and his family.
Friends may be received at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, January 17th from 11:30 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ian Costandi officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
