With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles L. Taylor Jr., who departed this life peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and care of his devoted partner and loving daughter, after a short battle with lung cancer.
A celebration of his life visitation will be held 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and love in honor of a man who meant so much to so many.
Born on December 29, 1956, in Columbus, Georgia, to Charles L. Taylor Sr. and Faye Jannette Taylor (née Spivey), Chuck was a graduate of Columbus High School. There, he made lifelong friends, played sports, rode dirt bikes on the dirt roads in Columbus and began to shape the vibrant, joyful personality so many would come to love.
In his early years, Chuck worked alongside his father at Charles Taylor Auto Sales in Columbus Georgia, an experience that not only shaped his work ethic but also highlighted his natural ability to connect with people. His easy-going nature, quick wit, and genuine interest in others made him a favorite wherever he went. Over the years, Chuck applied his adaptability and determination in roles at Horne Trucking and BJ’s Brew and Que. Eventually, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to his true calling. As a master of his craft, Chuck spent decades as a respected painting contractor, known for his skill and reliability. With such talent and character, Chuck never needed to formally advertise—his work spoke for itself. He often worked with other contractors and professionals, bringing homes and buildings to life with precision, and a signature touch that was uniquely his.
Chuck was the proud father of one daughter, Samantha Taylor Maxwell, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally. He wasn’t just a father—he was a true friend, a confidant, and a constant source of humor and support. Chuck and Samantha shared countless memories, from go-kart races, many trips to Gofer Fun Park, Columbus Driving Range and ShowBiz, to a cherished trip to Disney World. Walking Samantha down the aisle in 2022 was an unforgettable moment for both of them. His playful spirit, big heart, and unforgettable laugh left an impression on everyone he met. He had a rare gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
In 1991, Chuck married Tami Bartlett, and their love carried them through more than two decades until her passing in 2013. Through Tami, Chuck became part of a deeply loving and supportive family—one that stood by him in every chapter of life. They embraced him as their own and welcomed Samantha with open arms and hearts. That bond brought Chuck immense joy and further strengthened the values he held most dear: loyalty, love, and the unshakable importance of family. Values he passed on—values that will continue to pass through generations.
A true Georgia boy through and through, Chuck was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan and never missed a NASCAR race. Many fondly remember the legendary NASCAR room Chuck and Tami created—split right down the middle between Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon memorabilia. Whether cheering on his team, cracking jokes, or sharing stories with one of his many lifelong friends, Chuck brought joy, passion, and an easy charm into every room he entered.
In more recent years, Chuck found love again with Melinda Lawson, who became the center of his world. Since meeting in 2016, the two have been inseparable—sharing laughter, comfort, and a renewed sense of joy in life.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Vicki Charlene McCoy of Florida, and his beloved wife, Tami B. Taylor of Columbus, Georgia. Chuck is survived by his only child, Samantha Taylor Maxwell (Joshua) of Ellaville, Georgia, grandchildren: Brennen, Savannah, Lillian, and Stephen. He is also survived by his special nieces—Misty Moore (Richard), and their children Shelby, Charlotte, and Jayden; niece Ashley Keeley (James) and son Logan; and Katherin McCoy (Geno) and son Maliki. Chuck is remembered fondly by extended family Mary and Joe Bates, bonus nephews Brandon and Bryan, and by his lifelong friends Hugh Horne and Bert Chapman and so many other past and present.
Melinda and Samantha are forever grateful for the support of their family and friends, whose conversations, advice, shared stories, prayers, and unconditional love have meant more than words can say.
