Charles Joseph Thier

On Friday, February 6, 2026 Charles Thier passed away peacefully at age 87. Charles is loved and survived by his son Charles Guy, daughter-in-law Amy, daughter Candace, granddaughters Brianna and Meg, and cherished pet Angel. Charles loved all children which was apparent in his many years working for school District 109 where he served from 1961 - 1999. He held roles as teacher, assistant principal, principal and ultimately Superintendent. The Illinois General Assembly honored him upon his retirement and District 109 named an administrative center in his honor.

Charles was a talented musician frequently breaking out his accordion to liven up a party.

Charles enjoyed the many years of travel with his family, visiting nearly all fifty states in the nation. Charles retired to Northern Wisconsin where they enjoyed boating, fishing, and watching nature outside of their windows. After his retirement, he became involved in maintaining his beloved Wisconsin. He was a tireless champion of improving the quality of lakes in the Wisconsin Northwoods. He helped form the non-profit Found Lake association. He served on the advisory committee of Trees for Tomorrow and strived to create a lasting tomorrow for his grandchildren and future generations to enjoy.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 10 AM until time of prayer service at 12 PM at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Rd. (3 Blks S. of Roosevelt) Lombard, IL 60148. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Funeral info: 630-932-1500.
