Charles Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dettling Funeral Home on Jan. 9, 2026.
Charles (Chas, Chuck) Robert Thompson, age 88, of Houston, TX passed away on 01/08/2026 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Chuck was born in Albany, California on April 12, 1937 to Charles and Mae Olive Thompson. He was the loving husband of Margaret and brother to Walter and Susan. Chuck was married to Margaret for 54 years until her death in 2021. Chuck received a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1957, he was All-America catcher for the California Golden Bears baseball team that won the national championship. He served in the United States Air Force. Chuck moved to Houston with Margaret in 1970 and worked for Shell Oil Company his entire career as a Chemical Engineer at the Deer Park facility. Chuck had many interests, including his love for dogs and hunting with family.

The family sends all our love and thanks to Aurelia Hernandez and her son Luis for her many years of support and caring for Chuck every day he was dealing with Alzheimer's.

Thank you to Benchmark Hospice for caring for Chuck in his last days.

Thank you to the Memory Care unit at the Abbey at Westminster Plaza for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to one of Chuck's favorite charities: Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, Smile Train, the Humane Society of the United States, or a local animal rescue of your choice.
