Charles W. Tobin Sr., 99, of Dennis Port, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Born at Brockton Hospital, Massachusetts on April 24, 1925, the eldest son of Charles Leo Tobin and Katherine (Shappert) Tobin. Charlie, as he was known by all, or Cape Cod Charlie as he was known by many, was raised in Whitman, Massachusetts, attended Whitman Public schools. In 1943, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Marine Corps combat medic during World War II. Following three years of service in the South Pacific, Charlie studied at Coburn Institute and then Colby College, where he received a BA in Biology. In 1953 he earned a Master of Education at Bridgewater State College. His early career began as a teacher of Biology at Randolph High School then shifted to sales where he spent the majority of his career at Boston and Taunton Transportation.
Charlie married the love of his life, Phyllis Mary Monahan in 1951, and together they raised five children in Whitman, Massachusetts. In 1958 they built a summer cottage on Cape Cod, and in 1968 they sold the cottage, purchased the Old Wharf Inn, a small hotel in Dennis Port, and ran it as a family business. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his role as Innkeeper until his retirement this past summer at the age of 99.
Summers on Cape Cod and winters in Florida were an enjoyable routine for Charlie for several decades. Sun City Center introduced him to numerous good friends including his special lady Joanie Clouse, with whom he shared many years.
He is survived by his brother William Tobin and his wife Patricia of Concord, MA., his daughters Lisa (Tobin) Amadei and her husband Arthur of Medfield, MA., Paula (Tobin) Rushworth and her husband Duncan, of Chatham, MA., Brenda (Tobin) Muskavitch and her husband Marc of Millis, MA., his sons Chuck Tobin and his wife Sarah Carleton of East Orleans, MA., Tim Tobin and his wife Pam Tobin of Andover, ME., his grandchildren Jacquelyn Mancini, Jonathan Amadei, Lilly Tobin, Nicole Reardon, Katherine Lopez, Joy Higgins, and Rebecca Woodbury, and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Phyllis (Monahan) Tobin, and his siblings Richard Tobin, John Tobin, and Marie (Tobin) Makein.
Family and friends are invited to Charlie's visiting hour on Tuesday, February 11 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A Funeral Mass will be held immediately following visiting hour at 10:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman, followed by a burial at St James Cemetery, Whitman.

Liz and I stayed at the Inn each year for most of the last 50 years. It was more like visiting family than staying at a B&B which was what Old Wharf Inn was in the 60's. Charlie became a friend whom we looked forward to seeing each summer. In the later years we enjoyed playing dominoes with he and Joan. As we all got older, we started staying more weeks as we knew that this was a very special thing that wouldn't last forever. Fortunately, we got to spend many wonderful weeks with Charlie before he passed. We think of him often and miss him so very much.

We are Sylvie & Réal from Montreal, Canada. We met Charlie 20 years ago at the cottage. Charlie was like a father for me. Every summer me & Réal enjoy is company. Réal helping the more he can in our vacation (we went 3 times a year for 1 or 2 weeks at the time). After covid we were not able to go. We went only 1 times. We called him but its not like be with him. We are grateful to cross his path! We will always love you Charlie. Our condoleances to all the family.

All the Brennans loved our summer time spent on Cape Cod, and we always had great family get-togethers, lobster and clam bakes and days spent playing with our Tobin cousins! Uncle Charlie was always there with his smile and laughs and his great sense of humor. We will miss him.
