Charles Herman Vanderschuere

Charles (Chuck) Herman Vanderschuere Chuck, age 92, passed away quietly at Montesano Health & Rehabilitation Friday evening August 3. He was born in Hillsboro, OR, January 1, 1920, the son of Julius and Barbara Vanderschuere. He grew up and went to school in Hillsboro. After WWII he moved from Hillsboro to Ilwaco, WA where he purchased the Ilwaco Tavern. Later he sold the tavern and went to work for Heavy Hauling Co. in Astoria. He then moved to Aloha, OR where he worked for Oregon Egg Co. He later moved to Bend and purchased a service station. Next he owned a grocery store in Seattle. He concluded his varied career as Manager of the Si View Park in North Bend, WA. He then bought a home in Elma, WA. Chuck was active in the Elks for over 30 years, an avid fisherman, a hunter in his earlier years, enjoyed golfing with his friends at the Si-View Golf Course, loved gardening especially his raspberry plants, he was an excellent bowler (although in his later years he was known as the "Gutter Ball King", he and Delores played in numerous Pinochle tournaments, a passionate Mariner fan and a "Jack of all Trades". Chuck is survived by his wife, Delores and his son, Wayne Vanderschuere and Step-son Jack Meyers and four grandchildren, Nadine, Sarah, Matthew, and Joshua and 2 great-grandchildren, Ryan & Jordan. Chuck married Delores in 2005 and gained 9 step-sons and daughters, 20 more grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Stella, and his siblings, Victor, Charles Julius, Alice, Gabriella, Mary, Albert & Alphons. Chuck's strong values, common sense, and good humor will be deeply missed. Chuck's family would like to express their gratitude to Montesano Health & Rehab for the quality care and comfort he was given by the superb staff. A graveside memorial service will begin at 1PM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Masonic Cemetery in Elma.
