It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Charles Donald Walsh on April 5th 2025. Don passed away peacefully at home. He is now reunited with his wife, Barbara who predeceased him in 2023.
Born in 1934 to Charles and Anna (Burke) Walsh, Don was a lifelong Dutchess County resident. On April 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Barbara Joan Setaro. They raised their six daughters together in Pleasant Valley and retired to the Town of Poughkeepsie 25 years ago. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage until her passing.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his sister, Jean Senkier.
Don is survived by his six daughters: Kathleen (Brad) Goulden of Gardiner, NY; Marianne Schomann of Clinton Corners, NY; Barbara Walsh of Granger, IN; Eileen (Joel) Walsh-Lahey of Round Top, NY; Margaret Kistner; and Jean Walsh, both of Poughkeepsie. He also leaves behind 13 beloved grandchildren: Kayleigh, Sheila and Patrick Smith, John-Patrick Bagdonas, Taylor and Garrett Schomann, Seth and Paige Goulden, Lindsay Mills, Olivia Gereau, Ryan Mills, Colin Thomas and Benjamin Walsh, and ten great-grandchildren: Ava, Zayne, Gianni, Harper, Connor, Aurora, Eva, Avery, Charlotte, and Luci.
A graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Don proudly served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed a 40-year career as a Field Engineer for IBM before retiring in 1992.
Don was a gentleman, a devoted father, husband and friend. He was humble and kind and had a deep-seated faith in God. He could fix or build anything from a bookcase to his own personal computer. He was a diehard New York Yankees and Giants fan and an avid golfer and enjoyed movies and reading. He remained intellectually curious throughout his life, always staying informed and engaged with the world around him.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers who supported Don, and especially to John Ayew, whose steadfast care, comfort, and companionship over the past year and a half meant so much.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 11th at 9:30 am at Saint Martin de Porres Church, Poughkeepsie, NY. Graveside services and the burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Doyle Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. There will be no calling hours.
