Charles Virgile Wideman, age 74 of Garland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. Charles was born in Ashur, Arkansas to Ordith and Lucy Wideman on June 3, 1942.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; daughter Kimberly Kaes and husband Michael of El Reno, Oklahoma; son Michael Wideman and wife Jill of Garland, Texas. Grandchildren Aaron Kaes of Colorado, Jamie Orona and husband Modesto of Dallas, Texas, Sophea Wideman, Gabriel Wideman and Victoria Wideman as well as great grandchildren – Sky Orona and Baby Orona who is due in December. Charlie is also survived by his 6 sisters – Ethel Kelley of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Virginia Frost and husband Bill of Elkins, Arkansas, Chris Wideman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carol Mason and husband Archie of Hayseville, Kansas, Judy Merritt and husband Jim of Lubbock, Texas and Betty McNett and husband Eddie of Andrews, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ordith and Lucy, as well as his sister Vicky Lynn.

Charlie worked for the Dallas Morning News for 35 years; he started his career as a Linotype machine operator and worked his way up to department manager. After he retired, he decided that he wasn’t ready to stay at home and so he finished his career as a driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts - a job that gave him great joy for all the people that he got to meet and visit with every day.

Charlie had great passion for life. He loved to read, spend time on the computer, go camping and spend time with friends and family. Charlie never met a stranger and was never a stranger to those he met. He was always willing to lend a hand or a tool to help you get the job done. The impact he made to those he came in contact with will be felt for years to come.

Visitation will be held at the Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home (2925 5th Street, Sachse, TX 75048) on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Garland in the chapel (801 W. Avenue D, Garland, TX 75040) on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Friendship House or The American Cancer Society.

So very sorry to here this, first it was reported to us thru my cousin to your son to him. But I recall the many years we worked together thru the changes of newspaper work, etc. We saw all it all happening together. He always had a funny joke to pass on to me. Just a great all around guy. Bless all your family. James
