Charles Willmore Obituary

"Charlie" Passed away at age 80, on September 16, 2009 at Chester Co Hospital. He was a resident of Uwchlan Twp., Dowingtown, PA. Charles was born and raised in Memphis, TN, where he graduated from high school and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Marketing from Memphis State University. He moved to the Philadelphia area in the early 1960's and worked in Technical Sales Management for FMC Corp. While working at FMC, he was granted a patent for his development of an insulating material for undersea telephone cables. In the mid 1970's he moved to Washington, DC where he was employed as an Executive Secretary for the Electrical/Electronics division of NEMA. He also chaired multiple domestic and internationsl committees responsible for establishing electrical standards. He retired to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in the late 1980's and enjoyed fishing and crabbing with his family and friends. Charles and his wife returned to the Chester County area in the late 1990's to spend more time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli. His wonderful sense of humor and intelligence will be deeply missed by all of this family and friends. Charles is survived by his beloved wife Juanita G. (nee Gowdy), his son Richard L. Willmore, his daughter Leigh Willmore (George Gula), his grandchildren Lauren Lilley (Robert) and Jonathan Gula, his great-granddaughter Aislinn Lilley and his brother Kenneth Willmore. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Phila. PA 19106, would be appreciated.
