Charles Robert (Bob) Wood, 98, of Leesburg, GA., died Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Willson Hospice House. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Bobby Wright and Rev. Bill Kreiser will officiate.
Bob was born in Tampa, FL., to the late Charles Dreaher Wood and Mildred Swanson Wood. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rodman during World War II.
Bob had many jobs and careers during his lifetime including being a salesman, a manager in the food and beverage industry where he actually owned multiple restaurants, and was also an entertainment manager for his late wife’s band and a couple of nightclubs. Later he started his own chemical company that served municipalities and related industries and branched into water treatment consulting for large state run entities. His knowledge and know-how was sought after throughout his career and even after retirement. Bob was an avid fisherman and loved college football; especially the Florida Gators. When he was able, he loved to visit Biloxi with his wife, Opal to visit the casinos. He never met a stranger and always had a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on all aspects of life, but above all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He attended Christian Covenant Church as often as he could during his later years.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Opal Flippo Wood, a sister, Gloria Robertson, and a grandson, John David Wright.
Survivors include his children, Jean Gilbert (Les), Billy Goodman (Rachel) and Susan Goodman.
Grandchildren, Donovan Prothro (Tammie), Dreaher Goodman (Marlene), Justin Wright (Jessica), Bobby Wright (Heather), Amber Goodman (Shay), Austin Goodman and 10 great grandchildren.
