Charlie Woods Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Butler Funeral Home - Bolivar on Feb. 9, 2026.
Harry C. Woods (Charlie), age 77, was called home to his heavenly Father early on Saturday morning, February 7, 2026, in his home in Bolivar, Missouri. He was a "one of a kind." Never met a stranger, and if given the opportunity, would talk your ear off. He had a HUGE heart, and many saw him as a "Legend" for his vivacious and onerous spirit. He will be greatly missed for his infectious smile, wise counsel, and heart of gold. Charlie was born August 16, 1948, to Harry E. and Thelma V. (Mattingly) Woods in Bolivar, MO. He was the youngest son of 4. As a young man, he spent countless hours working with his father, loving on his mom, Woods Café, causing a "little" trouble, and spending time with family and friends. Charlie had the opportunity to love two women in his lifetime. On March 25, 1970, he married Christina J. Smith. They were married for 39 years and had five children before her death. On October 20th, 2014, he married Judi A. Hagthrop. Charlie and Judi were known as Papa Smurf and Momma J. They were involved in numerous outreaches, mentoring others, and loving on people. Charlie is survived by his wife, Judi; his children: Nancy and Frank Davis of Bolivar, Randall and Amy Woods of Triangle, VA, Jon and Michelle Woods of Bolivar, Mary and Jamie Long of Bolivar, Stephanie and Justin Doty of Bolivar, Shannon Brakebill of Pleasant Hope, MO, and Josh and Haydee Graves of Irvine, CA; his grandchildren: Meagan and Ben Woods, Breanna Guy, Kristen Christy, Isaac and Emma Long, Katie and Ethan Doty, Rylee Evans, Jordan and Jaxson Graves; his 17 great grandchildren; and sisters Lois Jenkins and Twyla Sikes. Charlie accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age. His Christian walk was greatly influenced by one of his mentors and spiritual father, the late Tom Brown. Charlie had an amazing testimony of what God can do in your life and would share it with anyone who'd listen. He was a spiritual father, a sobriety brother, and a mentor to many. He dedicated numerous hours to helping others, including driving for Convoy of Hope and serving meals. Charlie was very talented with many skills. He worked as a cabinet maker, mechanic, painter, designer, operated heavy machinery, worked in construction, and drove a semi. He owned multiple businesses, including Economy Towing and Auto Body, and Woods Excavating & Construction. He was also well known as the master pie maker. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. and Thelma V. Woods, brother Ralph E. Woods, and his 1st wife, Christina J. Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences for Judi Woods and the family can be sent to Stephanie's (daughter) house: 506 N. Chicago Ave, Bolivar, MO 65613. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
