Charlotte Rose Dempsey

Charlotte Rose Dempsey, 72, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023 at her residence. Charlotte grew up in Greensburg, Pa. and later married the love of her life, Gary. She lived in Thurso, Scotland for several years where her two oldest sons were born. Charlotte accompanied her Navy husband to Hawaii where her youngest son was born. She then lived in Manchester, N.H. for five years before moving to Madison, Ala. There she worked for Redstone Federal Credit Union for 30 years, finally retiring to Hayesville in 2019. Charlotte was a member of Hayesville American Legion Post No. 532 Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and donated many lap blankets to the Clay County Health Department. She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and listening to 1960's era music.
She was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Marguerite Kummer Zimmerman.
Surviving is her loving husband Gary Dempsey, of Hayesville; three sons, Sean Dempsey and wife, Kathleen, of Hayesville, Bruce Dempsey and wife, Ramona, of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Mathew Dempsey and wife, Bethany, of Fleetwood, Pa.; one brother, David Zimmerman, of Katy, Texas; three sisters, Elaine Zimmerman and Karen Boggs and husband, Bill, all of Greensburg, Pa., and Nancy Komarinski and husband, Jim, of Mt. Pleasant, Pa.; five grandchildren Katelyn Boardman, Ian, Elizabeth, Josiah and Benjamin Dempsey; and a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Boardman. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Mitchell Shields officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in memory of Charlotte Rose Dempsey be made to Hayesville American Legion Post No. 532, PO Box 22, Hayesville, N.C. 28904.
