Charlotte Virginia Miller, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 10, in Crownsville, MD. She was born in Washington, D.C. to Virginia Catherine Whetsel and John Joseph Haggerty (who died when she was 3 years old), and raised by her mom and stepfather, George Shirley McHorney. After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD, she studied Nursing at Georgetown University for two years. During that time, she met Louis George Miller on a blind date and they married on May 16, 1953. Lou served in the Navy during World War II and Korea, then worked as a Cryptoanalyst for National Security Agency for 33 years. They lived in Seat Pleasant, Largo, West River, Riva, Mayo, Chesapeake Beach and Edgewater Maryland. Charlotte loved animals and the family moved to farms in West River and Riva where they owned and boarded horses in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Other pets included cats, dogs, a Billy goat, ducks, rabbits, and any stray that needed a home.
Charlotte's love of music and strong religious beliefs guided her through life and her friendships. Through the 1980s and early 90s, she was a member of Women's Aglow Fellowship and Music Leader of Woodland Beach Community Church where she played both the piano and organ.
Charlotte leaves behind her beloved cats, Christmas and Softy (now in the care of her friends Ed and Betsy). She is predeceased by her husband, Louis, who died in November 1993 and her parents, John, Virginia and George.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Kim Miller Erickson (husband Ron), and son, Mark Miller (wife Susan). She is also survived by four grandsons Christopher Sr. (wife Gillian), Sean, Nathan, and Ian (wife Jamie) as well as eight great grandchildren Blake, Sarah, Sophia, Layla, Anna, Carly, Lilah, Christopher Jr.
Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. for a memorial service at 9:30 at the Hardesty Funeral Home 851 Annapolis Road Gambrills, MD, then proceed to the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD for final prayers at 10:45 am on December 5.
Either flowers or a donation (in Charlotte V. Miller's name) to the Anne Arundel SPCA, 1815 Bay Ridge Road, Annapolis, MD 21403 will be appreciated.
