Charlotte Straney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson on Apr. 28, 2025.
Charlotte Brainard Straney passed into the welcoming arms of our loving Lord on April 11, 2025. She was surrounded by family and at the utmost of peace.
Growing up in the projects of Cleveland, Charlotte and her two sisters were raised by a single mother. They were separated from each other at a young age and placed into homes until their mom could build a life strong enough to bring them all together again. Charlotte sacrificed everything for her family, and her family sacrificed everything for her, a formative time that built the foundation of her approach to life.
Charlotte focused forward choosing to live every day in love as Jesus taught us. "Treat others the way you want to be treated." She took it a step further and LOVED others the way she knew we should all be loved.
Through one of the hardest of hard starts to her life, she was blessed with an amazing husband. God brought the two of them together when Nicholas Straney was at podiatry school in Cleveland. From the humblest of beginnings, they built an amazing life that was one to remember.
Charlotte and Nicholas were married in 1972 and returned to Charleston to begin a podiatry practice and life together. They remained here throughout their years.
Diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, in 2018, Charlotte was selected for transplant through MUSC, Charleston, SC. God blessed the world with an additional seven years of her life. She wasted none of that time. Again, choosing to turn adversity into opportunity, she focused on the blessing and used every day to its fullest.
Charlotte touched the lives of many people through her work managing Nicholas' office, her day-to-day family care, her time with transplant, and her life in the world. Although she rarely spoke of it, her life was a shining example to all of how to love as God loves, without fear or boundary through even the greatest of adversities. Trust in God. Through him, all things are possible. Charlotte left an indelible mark on all of our lives. Her compassion, smile, and boundless love will be deeply missed.
Charlotte is survived by her sons Christopher and Phillip; daughters-in-law Stacy and Jessica; grandsons Cameron and Graham; granddaughters Emma, Lilly, and Eva; grandson-in-law JP; sisters Donna and Birdie; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donations may be made to Charlotte's church, a small missionary church with numerous outreach programs to aid the poor: St. Ann Catholic Church PO Box 250 Santee, SC 29142 or MUSC Lung Transplant Support responsible for handling her lung transplant https://fundraise.musc.edu/give/384393/#!/donation/checkout?designation=1854910&c_src=WEB-DOM

I worked for the Straney´s for 20 years. They treated me like family. I´m living elsewhere now, and had tried texting Charlotte and didn´t get a reply. I just now found out she´d passed away. Her and Dr. Straney were wonderful people. My condolences to Chris and Phillip and their families. I watched those boys grow up. Condolences to the rest of Charlotte´s family and friends. She was a very generous and giving person. She was my friend.
