Some of my fondest memories of Charmaine:
When I first got to know you 47 years ago, because I came from the same religion you did before you married Ralph, you explained to me that no one exulted the Mother of God more then the Orthodox Christian church and why, resonated with me.
Your visiting us in California, and Fr. Anastasy baptizing you in Point Reyes, in the the same font my own mother was baptized in. And you taking the Mother of Gods name-Marie, who you so obviously loved.
The time you & Ralph came to Georgetown for a weekend and telling me how you would always turn your paychecks over to Ralph, and quickly adding with a laugh and a wink, how naive you were that you probably should have kept it; making us laugh.
When I came to stay with you that weekend after your surgery 2 yrs ago, and telling me it was time to watch Shark Tank on TV. I got more of a kick out of watching you, watch the show, and your comments were hilarious. And then later that night, giving me all the love letters to read, that Ralph gave you all the years you were married. It took 2 nights to read them all. That was so precious and meant so much to me.
Your talks to me about our Orthodox faith, were always gentle, loving, and never preaching. I remember you so often through out the years commenting on how you thought you were never confident enough to speak about the Faith, and that Ralph was more the one to do so. But that was never true, as I'm sure others would agree. It was your humility in that area, that I was drawn to.
You always, even up until a few months ago, reminding me that, since my mom had reposed so peacefully as a nun, that you were now my mother; which, as I write this, brings tears to my eyes, but love and warmth to my heart and soul.
Your always checking on me whether in person or on the phone, to see how I was, physically , mentally, but most of all spiritually; just as a mother always should do, and reminding me that no matter what comes, Our Savior will always take care of us if we listen and trust in Him.
A special tribute to Paulette, Victor, and Paul, who lovingly gave so much of themselves to take care of you and Ralph in your final years. God will reward them for their love and sacrifice.
I will miss you Charmaine, telling me you loved me and I you; my mother in law, that became my mother.
I love you
Angie
