On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Chauncey Marie Nazareth transitioned from this earthly life. Chauncey was the daughter of Doris Nazareth and Gene Turner. She was born on September 18, 1955, and was the eldest of four daughters.
Chauncey was born and spent her early childhood on Richneck Rd. in Newport News, Virginia and later moved to the historical neighborhood designated as Salter's Creek. She attended Carver High School in Newport News.
She was known for her warm, affectionate, and caring spirit. Spending time with her family and friends is what she enjoyed the most. She was her mother's caregiver for several years and they absolutely loved playing cards and doing crossword puzzles together. She loved to laugh, cook, and read. She enjoyed good music, eating crabs and shucking oysters. She was also known for her exceptional intelligence, always impressing those around her with her quick wit and understanding of a wide range of subjects. Watching Jeopardy was her favorite pastime and if Jeopardy had at home contestants competing, she would win first place! Christ was her foundation and served as her compass for navigating the hardships and tribulations she faced in life. Those who knew her, knew that she was a selfless, beautiful soul.
Chauncey was preceded in death by her father Gene Turner, brothers in law, Harvey Curry and Tim Hudgins and granddaughter Keona Swittenberg. She leaves a legacy of love ones who will cherish the fond memories, including loving mother Doris Nazareth of Hampton, Virginia; daughter, Karla Nazareth Swittenberg (Kelly) of Hampton, Virginia; and sons Christopher Nazareth of Atlanta, Georgia; Devon Nazareth (Shea) of Suffolk, Virginia; her sisters Sheila Nazareth, Cheryl Curry, and Sharon Alston (Lucius); her grandchildren Ty, Zahra, Israel, Somaya and Gianna; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Though she may no longer be with us in body, Chauncey's spirit will live on. May she rest in eternal peace..
It is the desire of the Nazareth family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
