Cherie Belle Curtis 1928-2025
Cherie Belle Curtis, age 96, went home to be with Jesus on February 10, 2025. Cherie was born March 1, 1928 in Los Angeles, California, to Ross Barstow and Lillian Blanche (Arnold) Jackman. She joined her older brother, Ross B. Jr., and later, sister Gloria Ann.
She grew up in Los Angeles, where she graduated from University High School of West Los Angeles in 1946. She then moved to Bremerton, Washington, to live with her mother and stepfather. There, she met the love of her life, "Buck" Vincent Curtis. Buck had recently been honorably discharged from the Navy, and started working as a timber faller. They were married in Reno, Nevada, on February 3, 1947.
They moved to Gold Beach in 1948 for Buck's work falling timber. The early years were spent fishing for salmon on the Rogue River. They welcomed son Martin Paul in 1954, and daughter Dena Ann in 1962. During their 69 years of marriage, they loved spending time with family, attending sporting events of their son and daughter, and later on, their grandchildren. They were inseparable, always headed down the road to Arizona, or to Brookings just to eat at McDonalds!
Cherie was baptized in 1958. Her love of the Lord made her a student of the Word, and a mighty prayer warrior. She shared God's Word everywhere she went. Many a night, hurting people would knock on her door. Her quiet, sweet, loving spirit drew many, and gave comfort to those who were hurting.
Her daughter, Dena, remembers that her mother would answer the door, even to the Fuller Brush man, and tell him she would invite him in IF she got equal time to share the Word. Her greatest desire was for people to know her Savior.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always put everyone else's needs ahead of her own.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Paula Curtis, of Gold Beach; grandsons Luke (Samantha) Curtis and Jebb (Courtney) Curtis; great-grandchildren Finley, Jace, Logan and Brynn Curtis; daughter and son-in-law Dena and Marvin Morse; granddaughter Elizabeth (Todd) Schaedler, great-grandson Trent; granddaughter Cherie (Garrett) Blaylock, great-grandchildren Camden and Faith.
Cherie was preceded in death by her husband "Buck" Vincent Curtis, son Timothy Allen Curtis, and grandson Craig H. Nesbitt Jr..
