Cheryl A. Benzschawel, was Born to Life on June 26, 1951, and Born to Eternal Life on January 10, 2024. As a 63-year Type 1 diabetic (diagnosed at age 9), Cheryl felt blessed and thankful to be given the opportunity to live on this wondrous earth God created.

Cheryl enjoyed reading, playing mahjong on her kindle and learning. She also liked playing piano, listening to music, crocheting, walking, and red wine. Cheryl was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ Choir, volunteered at St. Joe’s Food Pantry since 2009, and at the P.A.C. for the last several years. Great friends were made, and much laughter was heard while volunteering. Cheryl retired in 2008 from Fox Valley Technical College, received her LPN degree in 1970; and worked at Appleton Memorial Hospital for several years.

Cheryl’s greatest love was spending time with her family, and she is survived by her mother: Dorothy Fischer; 4 children: Laura (special friend Bryan) Parsley, Dr. James (special friend Lona), Michael (Heidi), and Paul (Nicole) Benzschawel; 10 grandchildren: Brianna, Connor, Austin, Eric, Kaelyn, Addy, Dakota, Alex, Camdyn, and Kali; a great granddaughter: Lily; 3 brothers: John, Dan, and Gary (Tammy) Fischer; and other relatives and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father: Wallace Fischer; a son-in-law: Shaun Parsley; and the father of her children: Glen Benzschawel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 E. South River St., Appleton. The visitation will be on Friday at the church from 9:00am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, Massachusetts, a cause that was near and dear to our mom’s heart.

Cheryl’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of her medical team over the years for their great care, compassion, and kindness.
