Cheryl McDaniel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greene Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel on Oct. 3, 2025.
Cheryl Ratterree McDaniel, born April 22, 1944, in Rock Hill, SC, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025. She was 81 years of age.

Cheryl McDaniel was a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, a member of Catawba Methodist Church, and the daughter of the late Harley and Eula Ratterree. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen and Lavada, and her life-long best friend and beloved husband of many years, Jerry McDaniel.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters, Lisa Thompson (Robert) and Stacy English (Jamie); five grandsons, Tre Thompson, Josh English (Ellen), Noah Thompson, Alex English, and Ethan Thompson; one great grandson KJ Thompson; as well as one soon-to-arrive great grandson, Kooper Thompson.

Cheryl taught high school English until she retired from Northwestern High School to spend more time with her family. Cheryl was sweet and kind to everyone. She was the best listener, offering encouragement and compassion with laughter and a no nonsense spirit that kept all of us anchored. She loved spending time with her family, spoiling her dogs, Colt and Millie, watching, and feeding the birds in her yard, reading, taking care of her herbs, plants, and flowers, going to the Beach, staying in touch with people she cared about, and cooking for everyone.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life memorial service on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Catawba Methodist Church, 4785 College Road, Catawba, SC 29704, in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Humane Society of York County, or Catawba Methodist Church, PO Box 160, Catawba, SC 29704.
