Cheryl dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse, a career that spanned several decades in the healthcare industry. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to healing touched countless lives, embodying the true essence of compassion and empathy.
A woman of profound faith, Cheryl always put God first in her life. Her deep religious devotion guided her path and inspired those around her. She found joy and solace in her spiritual journey, reminding everyone of the strength and hope that comes from unwavering faith.
Cheryl had a passion for storytelling and imagination. She was an avid listener of audio books, with a particular affection for science fiction and the thrilling novels of Tom Clancy. These stories fueled her vibrant mind and offered her endless adventures beyond the pages.
Cheryl's educational pursuits led her to St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth, MN, where she graduated in 1970. Her dedication to learning and her profession set a powerful example of perseverance and commitment.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Raymond and Nadine McDermott, sister Cynthia Rose McDermott, and brother-in-law Dennis Waite, Cheryl's legacy continues through her surviving family: her sister Theresa Waite; nephews James Knooihuizen, Jeffrey Lee Waite, and Robert Joseph Waite; and two special ladies who were like daughters to her, Betty Sheppard and Becky Lilley.
In celebration of Cheryl's inspiring life, a Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Family Choice Funerals and Cremations in Virginia Beach, VA. Friends and family are invited to honor her memory with fond stories and shared memories.
Cheryl's life was a beacon of light, driven by love, faith, and kindness. Her unwavering belief in God's plan and her enduring compassion for others will continue to inspire all who knew her.
