Cheryl Olds Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kalkaska Funeral & Cremation Services on Oct. 18, 2022.
Cheryl Ann Olds, 69, of Kingsley passed away Sunday morning, October 16, 2022, surrounded by her family at home. Cheryl was born November 8, 1952 in Traverse City to the late Lyle and Winifred (Blissett) Ashmore. She married Thomas (Tom) Jay Olds on May 5, 1973 and together they had three children.
Cheryl and her family moved from Traverse City to Mayfield in 1967 when her father built and started up the Mayfield General Store. This is when she attended Kingsley High School graduating in 1970 where she met her highschool sweetheart who she would later marry. Cheryl then went on to earn an Associates from Northwestern Michigan College and soon began an early career as a Dental Hygienist. Aftering marrying in 1973, Cheryl and Tom moved into their then fixer-upper farm house on Hammer Road in Kingsley where they raised their children turning their farm and house into a home they cherished. Cheryl loved collecting rocks, tending to her flowers and gardens in years prior, sewing, and shopping with her girlfriends. She was incredibly grateful for the 'helpers' who looked after her and especially for her decades-long friendship with neighbor, Charlotte. She carried a profound love for the Christmas season and would annually decorate the inside of her home from top to bottom with lights and decor which often included up to seven Christmas trees. Cheryl was active in the community having worked at Kingsley Public Schools as a gym aide, volleyball coach, softball coach, and administrative secretary from 1988 to 2011. She also worked as the secretary to the Northwest Michigan Fair Board from 2012 to 2014 and prior to that she served as a 4-H Leader from 1989 to 1999. Cheryl adored her grandchildren and would move mountains to watch them play sports, sing in Christmas concerts, graduate milestone events, celebrate birthdays or other big occasions, or just share her mornings with one or two of them when it worked out.
Cheryl is survived by her three children: Aaron (Nicole) Olds, Justin (Annie) Olds, and Sarah (Troy) Sherman; seven grandchildren: Lauren Olds, Tyler Olds, Brayden Sherman, Colten Sherman, Joshua Olds, Luke Olds, and Evelyn Olds; two brothers: Craig (Mindy) Ashmore and Christopher (Terry) Ashmore; brother-in-law: Michael Eagle; 35 nieces and nephews; and so many very special sisters-in-law. Cheryl is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Olds, sister, Cynthia (Ashmore) Eagle, and her parents.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20, from 6:00-8:00 PM and again from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, October 21, 2022, with the service to begin at 11:00 AM at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, followed by a lunch for friends and family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
