It is with profound sadness yet heartfelt celebration that we announce Evangelist Cheryl Sue Polk, a beloved educator, minister, and cherished matriarch, triumphantly entered The Place which was prepared for her on October 31, 2025. Born on January 17, 1946, to the union of Jonas Polk and Leily (Dillard) Polk in Canton, Cheryl lived a life rich in love, faith, and service, illuminating the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Cheryl dedicated her life to educating young minds and uplifting her community through teaching at Canton City Schools. A proud graduate of Kent State University, she inspired countless students with her passion for learning and compassion for humanity, particularly her deep love for children.
Her commitment to education was paralleled only by her devotion to sharing the Word of God as an esteemed evangelist at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, where she served joyfully until just two months before her passing. She was actively engaged in the singles ministry. A prayer warrior and a licensed evangelist of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Cheryl's charisma was contagious.
Cheryl's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love for her family. As a matriarch who outlived eleven siblings, she became a guiding light to her many nieces and nephews, each of whom she cherished as her own children. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond family; her heart knew no bounds, and her home was a sanctuary filled with compassion, laughter, and the sweet aroma of her famous pound cake.
Known for her expressive nature, her vibrant personality could light up any room-there was never a poker face to mask the joy she found in life. Through music, cooking, and baking, she shared her love generously, creating bonds that will never be broken. Always fashionable and tastefully appointed in her attire for the occasion, she had an affinity for the rich deep color burgundy.
Cheryl is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Melita Polk, Yolanda Polk Banks, Marcus Banks, Amanda Polk Ridgeway, Theresa Polk Singletary, Morris Polk, Jr., Danielle Polk, Rashaud Polk, Shawn Polk, Doron Polk, Gabriel Polk, Laurence Polk, Aundraa Polk, Jamie Polk, and Jason Ridgeway. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, kindness, and faith.
Evangelist Cheryl's faith became sight upon seeing her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Awaiting her arrival in eternity, she was reunited with her parents and siblings, John Wesley (Neldean) Polk, James Delano (Dorothy) Polk, Elvin Lester (Linda) Polk, Morris Lee (Frances) Polk, Sr., Wallace Cornelius Polk, Eddie Polk, Tony Polk, Fern Manisha Polk, Beatrice Polk Hill, Nelson Dillard (Gwendolyn) Polk, LuNellie Polk, Regal Polk, each who preceded her in death. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will forever resonate in our lives.
A Public Viewing will be held in the chapel of the J.E. Washington Funeral Services, Inc, 1617 Third Street N.E, in Canton on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, offering friends, family, and community members the opportunity to pay their respects.
A Memorial Service will follow at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Carlos Morris, as we gather to honor the gifted, loving, and extraordinary life of this Woman of God.
While she has gone home to rest, we are hopeful as her spirit and lessons imparted will forever remain in the hearts of all she touched. Her legacy is a testament to the power of love, faith, and community-an enduring reminder to treasure the joy of life. As we remember her, let us celebrate a life well-lived, as we carry forward her rich generosity, warmth, and unwavering faith.
