Cheryl (Pruisner) Propst, age 75 of Tama, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Sunny Hill Care Center.
Born Cheryl Dawn Pruisner on July 12, 1949 in Waterloo, the daughter of Gordon and Arelene (Tjebkes) Pruisner. Cheryl graduated in the Class of 1967 from Aplington High School.
On September 1, 1972, Cheryl was united in marriage with Ronald “Dean” Propst. From this union, they were blessed with two sons, Travis and Matthew.
Cheryl worked as a paraeducator in the South Tama County School District and also worked for over 25 years at Pamida, later known as ShopKo. Cheryl loved her jobs, because of the interaction with kids and the public. Some may say, Cheryl never worked a day in her life due to her genuine desire to help those around her.
Cheryl was a faithful member of Grace Community Church in Toledo, where she found joy in fellowship. Cheryl was a talented artist in drawings and beadwork; she used her artwork as another way to express her love and share joy to those around her. She enjoyed solving jigsaw puzzles and baking - most famous for her Christmas cookies. Cheryl was a sports fan, most recently her passion was for the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team. Above all else, Cheryl loved her family and treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Arelene; her husband Dean in 2017; an infant sister, Lani Jo; and her brother-in-law, Ronald Best. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Travis (Chris) Propst of Grinnell and Matt Propst of TX; her grandchildren, Tanner (Maddie Gates) Hathaway, Lindsey (Cody) Schwarck, Josh Kriegel, and Nick (Ashley) Kriegel; and great-grandchildren, Ava and Aiden Schwarck and Clayson Kriegel. She is also survived by her sisters, Sonja Pruisner, Vicki (Dick) Koehler, and Terri Best; foster siblings that became family, Virginia Richardson, BJ Smith, Ron Smith, Mike Smith, and Everett Siddell; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Per Cheryl’s wishes, cremation rites will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Grace Community Church in Toledo. Visitation will be held for one hour prior. Cheryl and Dean will be laid to rest together at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.
