Cheryl Lee Whipple
February 8, 1960 – April 4, 2025
Cheryl Lee Whipple, a beloved sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, passed away on April 4, 2025, in
Lakeland, FL, surrounded by her family. To know Cheryl was to be loved by Cheryl. She had a way of seeing people-not just the surface, but their heart. Her joyful spirit was infectious. She had a song for every moment, a laugh that could brighten the darkest day. Cheryl had a rare ability to make people feel safe, valued, and wholly loved.
Cheryl devoted her career to special education, pouring her heart into every classroom and every child. With patience, empathy, and deep belief in the potential of each student. She created a world where children felt seen, heard, and valued. Cheryl made sure her students knew they were capable of greatness just as they were.
Beyond her career Cheryl was a devoted sister to Toni Russell and Kelli Stargel. Kelli's husband, John, was like a brother to her. Her role went far beyond "Aunt" to her 6 nephews and nieces. She was a second mother, a trusted confidant, and an encouraging voice. They could turn to her for anything. Cheryl also cherished her 8 great-nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Freda and Bob Whipple, she embodied their gentle spirit and unwavering love for others.
One of Cheryl's greatest passions was the performing arts. In her youth, she was an active and enthusiastic member of Chamberlin High School's Thespian Society, Troupe 165. Her love for theater never faded. Later in life, she gave her time and talents as a volunteer at the local performing arts center.
Her love extended beyond people to the small joys in life. She also adored her dogs and cats, who were not just pets but loyal companions and beloved family members. Everyone who knew her knew of her love of purple, Tweety Bird, and butterflies.
Cheryl's absence leaves an ache, but her presence lives on every act of kindness, every gentle word, every child who believes in themselves because of her, and every family member she shaped with her unconditional love.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeland Funeral Home, 2125 Bartow, Rd. in
Lakeland, FL, to celebrate and honor Cheryl. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the SPCA or One More Child, two causes she held dear.
In closing, we offer the words she often sang to the children in her life-this time, just for her:
Oh we love Cheryl. Oh yes we do.
Oh we love Cheryl and we'll be true.
Now that she's not with us, we're blue.
Oh Cheryl, we love you.
