Chester Plummer Obituary

Chester Clyde Plummer, 80, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife, Betty, by his side, on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.

He was born December 10, 1944, in Nebraska City, NE, son of the late Cheney Plummer and Claire (Owens) Plummer Gray.

Chester was a 1963 graduate of North Platte High School in North Platte, NE, and was a 1965 graduate of Oklahoma Military Academy. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966–1970.

After his military service, Chester settled in Sedalia. While attending Central Missouri State College, he met the love of his life, a beautiful young woman working in a library. On February 27, 1971, at LaMonte Christian Church, he was united in marriage to Betty Louise Perriguey, who survives of the home.

In 1974, Chester began working in the parts department at Dean Machinery in Sedalia. His dedication and leadership led to his promotion to branch manager in 1986, and he retired in 2008 after 35 years of service to the company.

A devoted member of LaMonte Christian Church, Chester served as a deacon and chairman of the board. He took great pride in maintaining his home and lawn, and he enjoyed helping Betty with her gardens. He was also knowledgeable about classic cars, had a knack for “wheeling and dealing,” and, though not widely known, he had a soft spot for cats.

Chester and Betty loved traveling, taking many vacations and cruises with their children and grandchildren. A cherished memory for his family was their trip to Naples, FL, this past July. After retiring, Chester also spent time in Vera Cruz, Mexico, where he found joy in distributing school supplies and money to local children.

He will be remembered for his stubborn determination, strong will, adventurous spirit, and most of all, his deep love for his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Faron Plummer (Jennifer), of Sedalia, and Darin Plummer (Kristen), of Warrensburg; three grandchildren, Cassandra Lumpe (Drew), of Lee’s Summit, McKenzie Plummer and Toby Plummer, both of Warrensburg; a nephew who was like a son, Clint Perriguey (Tara), of Sedalia; a brother, Kenneth (Carmen), of Lincoln, NE; and daughter-in-law, Donna Plummer, of Sedalia.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Heckart Funeral Home, with military honors beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Show Me Christian Youth Home, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
