Ching Chiu Hsu, 103, of Hamden passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025. Ching Chiu
was born in Liaoning, China in 1922. He made his way to Taiwan where he met and married his wife, Pao Chu and welcomed their daughter, Ining. The family emigrated to the United States in 1973 and eventually settled in Hamden, Connecticut.

Ching Chiu was a chef and entrepreneur. He and Pao Chu opened and ran China Inn, China Garden, and Silver Palace for decades. In his retirement, Ching Chiu continued to cook for family and friends. He was known to have an ample supply of homemade dumplings in the freezer. His friends knew that a visit to his home would inevitably start with a plate of pan-fried dumplings. He also loved sending a container of crispy dumplings for his daughter to share with her friends. His Chinese New Year dinner parties were eagerly anticipated by friends and family alike, a time for gathering and sharing some of Ching Chiu's specialties.

He will be deeply missed and remembered by his wife and daughter, his brother in Taiwan, his sisters in DC and Washington State, and several nieces and nephews that span the United States and Taiwan, and dear friends who were like family.

Friends are invited to visit with Ching Chiu's family on Monday, July 21st from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT, and may also attend his burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22nd, at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave, New Haven, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or Mr. Bones & Co, dog rescue at https://mrbonesandco.org. To send condolences, please see obituary at www.beecherandbennett.com
